WSOC: Bradstreet's OT Goal Lifts Terriers to 1-0 Win in Season Opener

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Nikki Bradstreet (Topsham, Maine) scored five and a half minutes into the overtime period to lift the Thomas College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over UMaine-Presque Isle in their season opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls pressured the Thomas defense early on, registering three of the first four shot attempts in the opening 20. The Terriers tilted the field in their favor for the rest of the period, outshooting the Owls 6-0 in the final 25 minutes of the half.

Thomas continued to notch scoring chances in the second half, holding a 13-3 advantage in shots during the period. Despite their dominants, they were unable to get one through UMPI goaltender Malyssa Kubik as the teams went into the extra frame knotted 0-0.

After a scoring opportunity for the Owls, the Terriers countered and marched up the field, where Bradstreet received a pass from Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) carried the ball by defenders to the top of the box, an buried a right-footed shot to the bottom right of the goal for the game-winner.

Madison Rock (Bridgton, Maine) earned the win in goal for Thomas in her collegiate debut. She started the game and played the first 45 minutes, making one save, then was replaced by Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine), who made one save in the second half. Rock then reentered for the overtime period where she made a pair of saves to earn the victory.

Thomas and UMPI will meet again on Saturday, October 17 at 3:00 PM with the Terriers hosting at Smith Field.
