WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team defeated UMaine-Presque Isle 3-0 in their season opener on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
Zenawi Bowen (St. George's, Bermuda) notched the first goal of the Terrier's season in the 36th minute when Eric LaBrie (Yarmouth, Maine) arced him a pass over the UMPI defense and Bowen finished low right for the 1-0 lead. Thomas extended the lead to 2-0 late in the first when John Snowman (Dixfield, Maine) buried a rebound off his own penalty shot for his first career goal in the 43rd minute.
Thomas added one more goal in the 57th minute when Cooper Lyons (Gorham, Maine) settled a throw in near the sideline and sent a long ball to the front of the goal that found the foot of Hunter Smith (Oakland, Maine) who made a perfect touch to deflect it by the UMPI goaltender for the 3-0 lead.
John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) earned the win for the Terriers, working the first 60 minutes before being replaced by Jonathan LeClair (Belmont, N.H.), who made one save in the final 30 minutes.
The Terriers will visit UMPI on Saturday, October 17 for a 12:30 PM contest.
