Terriers Fall to Eagles in Conference Opener 2-1

BANGOR, ME – The Thomas College field hockey team dropped their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season opener, 2-1, to Husson on Saturday evening.

In the defeat, the Terriers fall to 2-6 (0-1 NAC) on the season while the Eagles improves to 2-3-1 (1-0 NAC).

Husson scored two quick goals in the 21st and 23rd minute to give them an early 2-0 advantage.  Kerianne Downing got the Eagles on the board on a feed Mikayla Toth.  Two minutes later, Taylor Lovely netted a goal for her second of the season and a 2-0 lead. 

The Terriers looked to rally deep in the first half as Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) chipped in her second goal of the season to give her team a spark going into the half.  The score remained the same for the entire second goal with neither team able to convert, finishing the scoring at 2-1.

Senior goalkeeper Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine / Mt. View) made three saves for the Terriers in the defeat while Kaitlin Dolloff turned aside five shots in the victory for the Eagles.  Husson outshot Thomas 17-8 and held a 10-9 advantage in penalty corners.

The Terriers have a quick turnaround as they host Kean on Sunday, September 25, in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference matchup at Bernatchez Field.
