Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College men's soccer team scored six first half goals to defeat Maine Maritime Academy, 7-1, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Tuesday night at Smith Field.
In the victory the Terriers improve to 2-2-1 (2-0 NAC) while the Mariners drop to 1-4-1 (0-1 NAC). Sophomore Josh Emard (Lebanon, ME / Noble) recorded a hat trick and senior London Steede-Jackson (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda / Cedarbridge) scored two goals for the Terriers in the win.
Thomas got on the board in early in the sixth minute when Adam LaBrie (Yarmouth, ME / Yarmouth) shot in a loose ball in front of the Mariners goal. Keeper Joshua Reeks made the initial save on Willie Clemons (Paget, Bermuda / Warwick Academy) but the ball rolled right to LaBrie for an easy goal.
Six minutes after, DJ Nicholas put the Terriers up 2-0 when he headed in a crossing pass from Nawfal En-Antri (Dorchester, Mass. / Bunker Hill). Steede-Jackson scored his two goals at the 16th and the 19th minute, with the second goal on a penalty kick. Emard followed up with two goals in the 26th and 39th minute both on crossing passes from Mikal Simmons (Pembroke, Bermuda / Cedar Bridge Academy) and Diondre Dowling (Southampton, Bermuda / Berkeley Institute) to put the Terriers up 6-0 going into the half. The Terriers outshot the Mariners 17-2.
The Mariners got on the board at the 75th minute when Tom Samson one-timed a great crossing pass from Erik Andreasen. Emard put away his third goal at the 89th minute on a through ball from MacQuille Walker (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda / Berkeley Institute) to finish the scoring at 7-1. Thomas outshot Maine Maritime 25-9.
Junior Drew Martin (Berwick, ME / SMCC) earned the victory in goal for the Terriers, making five saves while Reeks was given the loss for the Mariners, turning aside nine shots.
The Terriers will return to action on Thursday, September 20, as they travel to the University of New England for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
