WATERVILLE, ME – Mount Holyoke used two second half goals to defeat the Thomas College field hockey team, 2-1, in the Terriers home opener on Saturday afternoon at Bernatchez Field.

In the loss, the Terriers fall to 2-4 in their non-conference schedule while the win improves the Lyons to 2-3.

Senior Gabby Martell (Gorham, ME / Gorham) scored her team-high sixth goal of the season to put the Terriers up 1-0 in the 26th minute of the first half.  Off a Thomas corner, freshman Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, ME / Belfast) fired a shot from the top of the circle.  Martell was standing alone on the left post and redirected the ball into the goal.  The first half ended in a 1-0 Terrier lead while the Lyons held a 9-3 advantage in shots.

The Lyons tied the game early in the second half at the 38th minute as Charlotte Wagner (West Chester, PA / Westtown School) hit a one-time pass from Mirjam Keochakian (Hamburg, Germany / Deerfield Academy) into a wide open goal.  In the 58th minute, Keochakian made the same pass once again off a corner to Colby Newsham (Harvard, MA / Bromfield) who slammed in a goal to finish the scoring at 2-1.

Senior Goalkeeper Abbie Charrier (Waldo, ME / Mt. View) was given the loss for the Terriers after stopping eight shots while Liz DiCesare (Westford, MA / Bishop Guertin) earned the win in goal for the Lyons, making two saves.

The Terriers will continue their non-conference schedule on Wednesday, September 21, as they host Bates in a 6:00 p.m. contest at Bernatchez Field.
