WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women's tennis team fell in their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener at Husson on Tuesday afternoon, 8-1.
In the defeat, the Terriers fall to 1-3 (0-1 NEAC) while the Eagles improve to 2-0 (1-0 NEAC) in 2016. Both of their wins have come against the Terriers.
Husson won five of six singles matches with Meridith Blessard defeating Lindsey Allen (Jay, Maine / Spruce Mountain) 6-4 and 6-1. Charlotte Bednarz was victorious in a tough battle over Amelia Guimond (Fort Kent, Maine / Fort Kent) 6-3, 3-6, and 10-4. Kelsey Pelletier defeated Mia Navarro (Willimantic, Conn. / Windham) 6-2 and 6-4 in number four singles while Marisa Brown dispatched Maddelyn Butts (Auburn, Maine / Edward Little) 6-1 and 6-0. Samantha Dubay defeated Olita Laraway (Morrisville, Vermont / Peoples Academy) 6-0 and 6-1 in number six singles. The lone win for Thomas was on the number two line when Olivia Mora (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) defeated Sarah Smith 8-6.
In doubles action, Blessard and Pratt defeated Allen and Mora 8-1. Bednarz and Smith took care of Guimond and Navarro 8-4. Butts and Laraway fell to Brown and Pelletier 8-0.
The Terriers return to action on Saturday, September 17, as they travel to Lyndon State for a 1:00 p.m. North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.
