WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College men's soccer team tied the Saint Joseph's College Monks in a 1-1 contest on Thursday night at Smith Field.

In the tie, the Terriers and the Monks begin their 2016 seasons both at 0-0-1.

Saint Joseph's looked to get on the board early in the fourth minute of the game when their goal was called back due to an offside call by the official.  The score remained tied at zero going into the half with the Terriers outshooting the Monks 5-3.

At the 54th minute of the second half, the Monks struck first on a goal from Cody Elliot (Gorham, ME / Gorham) who received a crossing pass from Brett Mattos (Mahopac, NY / Mahopac).  The Terriers answered with an equalizer just eight minutes after when senior captain London Steede-Jackson (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda / Cedarbridge Academy) dribbled around three defenders and finished for his first goal of the season.  Regulation and two overtimes was not enough for both teams as the scoring finished at 1-1.

Senior Joakim Sternas (Stockholm, Sweden / Bromma Gymnasium) recorded three saves in goal for the Terriers while Zack Moody (Steep Falls, Maine / Bonny Eagle) finished with four saves for the Monks.

Thomas will return to the pitch on Monday, September 5, at 5:00 p.m. as they take on UMass-Boston at Smith Field.
