GORHAM, ME – The Thomas College men's soccer team shutout the University of Southern Maine, 3-0, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.
In the victory, the Terriers get back in the win column and improve to 6-3-1 (4-0 NAC) while the Huskies drop to 1-8-3 overall.
Junior Tevin Reid (Dorchester, Mass. / Bunker Hill) broke through for his fourth goal of the season with a well-time run onto a lofted ball from MacQuille Walker (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda / Berkeley Institute). Walker sent the booming pass over the top of the Huskies' defense and Reid touched the ball once into the to the far post.
The Terriers remained in front of Southern Maine 1-0 before adding two more goals in the 31st and 34th minute. Junior Kyle Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine / Monmouth) headed in his second goal of the season off of a cross from junior Jeffrey Nagy (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Old Saybrook) to double the Terrier advantage, and less than three minutes later sophomore Josh Emard (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) converted a penalty kick for the 3-0 final.
Senior Joakim Sternas (Stockholm, Sweden / Bromma Gymnasium) earned the win in goal for the Terriers, turning away all three shots while Simon Hulbert made six saves in the loss for the Huskies.
The Terriers will return to North Atlantic Conference play this weekend as they travel to Vermont for a 3:30 p.m. game at Green Mountain on Saturday, October 8 and a 2:30 p.m. matchup on Sunday at Castleton.
