Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College men's soccer team completed their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schedule undefeated as they beat Colby-Sawyer, 2-1, in double overtime on Saturday evening at Smith Field.
In the win the Terriers finish their regular season at 11-4-1 (9-0 NAC) while the Chargers finish at 9-6-1 (6-2-1 NAC).
The match began with back and forth opportunities for both teams as the Chargers looked to open the scoring in the 23rd minute. As the shot flew into the Terrier goal, the officials flag went up, signaling for offside on the play.
In the 55th minute, Colby-Sawyer got on the board first on a goal from Eddie Garcia. Garcia took a free kick outside the box that tucked just inside the left post. Just thirty seconds later, the Terriers answered right back on a goal from Adam LaBrie (Yarmouth, Maine / Yarmouth). Willie Clemons (Paget, Bermuda / Warwick Academy) found LaBrie in the box and his shot to the left side beat Charger keeper Jake Towle.
In the 64th, Colby-Sawyer could not capitalize on an empty net as Terrier defender Josh Irving (Portland, Maine / Portland) stopped the ball on the goal line to keep the game tied.
The score remained tied until the 105th minute of double overtime as Tevin Reid (Dorchester, Mass. / Bunker Hill) received a pass from Jeffrey Nagy (Old Saybrook, CT / Old Saybrook) and buried the game winner.
Senior Joakim Sternas (Stockholm, Sweden / Bromma Gym) earned the victory in goal for the Terriers, stopping five shots while Towle turned aside nine shots in the defeat. Thomas outshot Colby-Sawyer 22-16 and held a 7-4 advantage in corners.
The Terriers will play in the NAC Semifinals on Tuesday, November 1, with a time and opponent to be determined.
