Box Score SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Thomas College field hockey team was defeated 5-1 by Mount Holyoke College in a non-conference contest. The Lyons were powered by a four-goal performance from junior forward Charlotte Wagner.
Mount Holyoke opened the game's scoring in the 17th minute as Wagner scored off a pass from Kristina Ramsden. Wagner and Ramsden combined once again for the Lyons' second goal, scoring on the left side in the 27th minute.
Mount Holyoke made it a 3-0 game just as time expired in the first half as Sarah LaQuerre sent a shot in off a penalty corner by Anna Hartman.
The second half saw the Lyons add to their advantage in the 47th minute as Wagner lifted the Lyons to a 4-0 lead on a pass from Julia Bell. Thomas broke past the Lyons' defense less than a minute later as junior forward Gabby Martell found the ball in a heap of traffic in front and sent it through to the left. First year forward Sophany Srey was there, jamming it home to pull the visitors to within three (4-1).
Wagner would close out the game's scoring in the 54th minute as she fired a shot that deflected off a defender's stick and right back to her for her fourth tally of the game.
Mount Holyoke held the shot advantage over the Terriers with a 21-6 margin (12-5 on goal). They also carried the edge in penalty corners, 10-4.
For Thomas, junior captain Abbie Charrier had three stops in goal for the first half, while sophomore Jessica Russell made four saves in the final 35:00 of the game.
Thomas field hockey is right back on the field Sunday, September 20, taking on Plymouth State at the New Hampton School for an 11:30am contest.
