Box Score CASTINE, ME --- Junior midfielder London Steede-Jackson (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda / CedarBridge Academy) scored off a free kick in the 79th minute to provide the only goal in Thomas College's 1-0 men's soccer victory at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first half, the Mariners had an opportunity to break through in the 54th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after Thomas committed a foul in the box. Brian Soucy was unable to convert, however, as Terrier goalkeeper Joakim Sternas (Stockholm, Sweden / Bromma Gymnasium) made a diving stop to his left to knock away the try.
Thomas' best chance came three minutes later but Lukas Bohman's (Gnesta, Sweden / Tessin) shot caught the goal post and bounced back into play. The Terriers continued with the offensive pressure as the half progressed, eventually forcing the foul that set up Steede-Jackson's free kick.
Thomas was without the services of senior Tre Ming in the contest. Ming served a one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation.
The Terriers outshot the Mariners, 14-7, and had three corner kicks to the Mariners' two. Sternas was credited with two saves while Maine Maritime keeper Joshua Reeks made one.
Steede-Jackson led all players with four shots.
The win pushed Thomas (11-4, 7-1 NAC) into a tie with Colby-Sawyer (9-6, 7-1 NAC) for the league lead headed into Saturday's Senior Day contest with Johnson State. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The Chargers lost to Castleton, 2-0, on Tuesday night. The Spartans (11-5-1, 6-1 NAC) are one-half game back with two games scheduled for this weekend.
