Box Score WATERVILLE, ME --- Senior Taylor Bergeron scored three goals to lead the Thomas College field hockey team to a 5-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over New England College on Saturday at Bernatchez Field.
The victory improves the Terriers to 7-8 (3-1 NAC) while the Pilgrims fall to 2-14 (0-4 NAC).
Bergeron's hat trick came on Senior Day as six Terriers were recognized in their last regular season home game.
The Terriers' first goal came off a penalty corner in the second minute. Senior captain Brooklyn Curry received the pass at the top of the circle and sent a pass to an open Abigail Dunn who slammed in a one-timer to give the Terriers an early 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, a scramble in front of the Pilgrim net resulted in Brittany Ellis jamming in her first goal of the season to bring the Thomas lead to 2-0. In the 10th minute, Ellis sent a pass in front of the net to a wide open Bergeron who netted her first of the game to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead at the half.
Just two minutes into the second half senior Crystal Cunningham took the ball up the right side and crossed a pass to Bergeron to score her second of the contest. Bergeron's hat trick came just over a minute later on a Gabby Martell assist.
Senior Brittany Fox earned the win in goal for the Terriers while Michaela Clark was given the loss in an impressive 21-save performance. The Terriers outshot the Pilgrims, 44-1, and had a 23-0 advantage in corners.
The Terriers return to action Saturday, October 24, as they travel to Husson University for a North Atlantic Conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
