FARMINGTON, ME – The University of Maine-Farmington netted a pair of goals in the final 15:06 to edge Thomas College, 2-1, in a North Atlantic Conference field hockey contest.

Following a scoreless first half that featured just two UMF shots and eight penalty corners, senior Taylor Bergeron (Lyman, Maine / Massabesic) put Thomas up 1-0 with an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute. Bergeron scored off a rebound after her initial shot was saved by Beaver goalie Patty Smith.

UMF (6-3, 2-1 North Atlantic Conference) scored the equalizer in the 55th minute as Emma Martineau slipped a shot past Thomas goalie Abbie Charrier (jr., Waldo, Maine / Mt. View). Charrier had stopped back-to-back shots by Emmah Spahr before Martineau was able to connect.

The score remained knotted until the 68th minute when UMF was awarded a penalty corner. In the ensuing scramble, the Beavers' Mara Balboni scored off an assist from Delainey Kein.

Charrier (6-7) faced five shots in goal for the Terriers (6-7, 2-1 NAC), stopping three. Bergeron was credited with two of Thomas' four shots in the contest with senior Brooklyn Curry (Belfast, Maine / Belfast) and junior Erica Blake (Norridgewock, Maine / Skowhegan) each tallying one.

Thomas (6-7, 2-1 NAC) will look to get back in the win column at 7 p.m. Wednesday as the teams complete their home-and-home series with a non-conference game at Bernatchez Field.
