Box Score CASTINE, ME – The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated Maine Maritime on Tuesday evening by a final score of 84-73 in a North Atlantic Conference contest. Eric Westbrooks scored a game-high 21 points for the Terriers, going 9-9 from the free throw line in the victory.
The two teams were deadlocked for most of the first half, however the Mariners led 28-24 with 4:17 remaining in the first. The Terriers fought back though, taking a 35-32 lead into the half following an Adam Carlsen three at the buzzer.
Carlsen, Mike Akanji, and Shaun Munson all recorded eight points for Thomas in the first half. Ian King added three rebounds and two assists for the Terriers in the half.
Maine Maritime came out strong in the second half, scoring seven-unanswered points to take a 39-35 lead, but the Terriers took back the lead just moments later when Eric Westbrooks hit two from the line with 16:42 remaining. Despite coming close numerous times, the Mariners never held the lead again, and Thomas went on to claim the victory.
Justin Murray contributed 20 points, 15 of which came in the second half, while adding two rebounds and a steal. Akanji finished with 17 points, four rebounds and an assist. Westbrooks also added seven rebounds and four assists. Overall, five different Terriers scored double-digit points in the victory.
Tyler Thayer led the Mariners with 17 points, while Nick Holt added 11 points and Zachary Radcliffe added 10.
The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to the University of Maine at Farmington to take on the Beavers. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
