Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas College fell to crosstown rival Colby College, 9-0 in a non-conference field hockey tilt on Wednesday night at Bernatchez Field. Sophomore Abbie Charrier made eight saves in the opening half in the losing effort.
The Mules came out of the gate with offensive pressure on Thomas, with Charrier coming up with big saves to keep the came at a 0-0 deadlock. Colby would crack the scoreboard however at the 13 minute mark on an unassisted tally by Erin Maguire.
Colby added goals by Megan Fortier at 15:54 and McKayla Blanch (20:10) to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The second half saw much of the same, with Colby adding six more goals before the final whistle blew. Fortier would find the back of the cage two more times to seal the hat-trick in the season-opening victory.
Junior goalkeeper Brittany Fox made three saves in relief in the second stanza, while her counterpart Sarah Evans had two saves for the Mules.
Overall, Colby held a 28-4 advantage in shots, and a 13-3 edge in penalty corners.
Thomas will be back in action this weekend as they travel to New York for the 26th Annual Betty Richey Tournament hosted by Vassar. The Terriers will take on the hosts on Friday, September 5 at 7:45 pm.
