Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas College (2-3) fell to Colby College (1-1) by a score of 6-0 in a non-conference women's soccer matchup Wednesday afternoon. The two Waterville teams had not played each other since 1995. Colby has an 11-0 advantage in the series.
Colby's Cami Notaro scored just 2:39 into the game and Aliza Van Leesten scored her first two collegiate goals in the non-conference game.
Kajsa Kaufeldt had two of the best chances for Thomas to score a goal. The team's leading scorer the past two years, Kaufeldt twice had opportunities on passes from midfielder Bronte Howorth.
The Mules (1-1 overall) had a 33-6 shot advantage and a 9-1 margin in corner kicks.
Notaro put Colby up just 2:39 in when she one-timed a pass from first-year Laura Arnold.
Thomas settled down after the quick goal, but Colby junior Lauren McCarthy made it 2-0 at 22:34 with a goal that beat Leary to the upper right. The Mules made it 3-0 before halftime when sophomore Georgia Lubrano scored at 38:59, assisted by Samantha Turbeville.
Arnold added another Colby goal at 59:42 to put the game at 4-0. The forward had five shots on goal during the game.
Van Leesten, a starting defender for the Mules, moved up to the forward line and took little time to make an impact. Her first goal came off a pass from junior Catherine McClure at 67:53 to make it 5-0. Van Leesten would add one more to make it 6-0, assisted by Ally Ingraham.
Thomas keeper Paige Leary stopped 15 shots for the Terriers on the day. Emily Brook played 71 minutes and made three saves, while Ashley Conley closed out the final 19 minutes and stopped one shot.
The Terriers are back in action on Saturday, September 13 against Daniel Webster. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Thomas College's Smith Field.
