Box Score DUDLEY, MA – Thomas College field hockey defeated Nichols College, 3-1 Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both squads at Vendetti Field.
Lindsey Rappazzo opened the scoring at 6:11 when she collected a deflected shot from Avery Orszulak and scored into the right side of the net. The Terriers knotted the score at one on sophomore
Erica Blake's first of the season at 21:09. The play started on a penalty corner and the ball found Blake, who deflected the ball past Melanson.
Freshman
Abigail Dunn potted her first collegiate goal at 59:22 to snap a 1-1 tie and put the Terriers ahead for good. Senior
Nora Rauch netted the insurance marker less than four minutes later as Thomas has now won back-to-back season-openers in Dudley.
Sophomore
Abbie Charrier tallied 15 saves to earn the win for the Red and Black. Senior goalie Molly Melanson recorded six saves in defeat for Nichols and was replaced late in the second half by sophomore Katherine Cotton, who stopped three shots.
Thomas plays at Bridgewater State tomorrow at 1 p.m. to finish up their annual opening weekend trip.
