Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas field hockey team was unable to generate any scoring as they fell to St. Joseph's (ME) 2-0 Wednesday evening at Bernatchez Field.
The Monks broke into the scoring column first, only three minutes in after a penalty corner Theresa Hendrix took a pass from Meghan Williams and put it by Abbie Charrier for the early 1-0 lead.
Both teams would play a back and forth game throughout the rest of the first half. St. Joseph's (9-1, 3-0 GNAC) would add on a late goal by Kelsey Dumond as she drove at the goal and shot it by Charrier to the left side for the 2-0 halftime lead.
The Monks held an 8-2 shot advantage along with a 5-1 penalty corner advantage in the first half.
The second half was very defensive as neither team were able to get many shots on goal. Emily Leighton almost put the Terriers (4-9, 1-1 NAC) on the board with only one minute left to play, but was denied by Monks goaltender Emma Astbury.
Charrier made five saves on seven shots faced in goal for Thomas. Astbury stopped the only shot she faced on goal.
The Thomas field hockey team will have a quick turnaround, as they jump back into North Atlantic Conference play when they travel to take on Colby-Sawyer this Saturday, October 11 at 1pm.
