Box Score WATERVILLE, ME - Despite an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, the Thomas women were unable to register a goal in a 1-0 defeat against Regis this Wednesday night at Smith Field. Paige Leary recorded three saves in the loss while Jenn Day, Bronte Howorth and Elizabeth Anderson all registered two shots on goal to lead the Terriers.
The action was a back and forth affair for most of the first half as the game remained scoreless until the 33rd minute, when Joanna Rosa was able to control the ball and get a shot by Leary to give the Pride the only goal they would need.
Thomas (4-7, 1-2 NAC) had their chances in the first half, but missed shots wide or were denied by Regis goalkeeper Rachel Gagnon, who had eight saves in the shutout victory.
Down a score starting the second half, the Terriers came out with a sense of urgency to get shots on the goal, but were once again off the mark or denied by Gagnon. Gagnon picked up six of her eight saves in the second half.
Regis (3-4-1, 1-0-1) made the most of their opportunities and played to preserve their lead and pick up the road victory.
The Thomas women's soccer team will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 4, when they get back into North Atlantic Conference play as they play host to Lyndon at 1pm.
