Terriers Fall to Nationally Ranked Bowdoin, 106-42

WATERVILLE, ME – #18 Bowdoin College (16-1) defeated Thomas College (6-11), 106-42, in a non-conference men's basketball contest on Tuesday evening at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. Junior Mike Akanji scored a team-high eight points in the losing effort.

Thomas had their only lead of the contest just minutes into the first, with Levi Barnes making a layup at 18:21 to give the hosts an early one point advantage. The Polar Bears responded with a quick jumper by Keegan Pieri to take back the lead and never relinquish it.

Bowdoin, who shot a remarkable 62.5% (10-16) from beyond the arc in the opening stanza, would lead by as much as 34 points, as Andrew Madlinger hit a three-pointer at the 1:37 mark.

Going into halftime, Matt Mathias had a game-leading 16 points for the away side, while the Red and Black had a trio of players with four points for a team-high (Barnes, Eric Westbrooks, and Marquis Pollard).

Bowdoin continued to increase the point spread in the closing period, going up by as many as 64 with .35 seconds remaining.

Overall, Bowdoin shot 51.4% (38-74) from the field, while going 15-31 (48.4%) from downtown. Thomas went 15-59 (25.4%) from the floor and 25.9% (7-27) from the perimeter.

Madlinger had a game-high 17 points, going 4-6 from downtown. Mathias and Lucas Hausman chipped in with 16 points in the win for Bowdoin. Thomas' leading scorer of the contest, Akanji came off the bench in the second to lead the team with eight points, going 2-3 from the perimeter.

The Terriers will be back on the hardwood Friday night as they host conference opponent Colby-Sawyer at 7:30pm. Thomas was defeated by the Chargers in New London, N.H. earlier this month, 85-73.
