Thomas Denied by Huskies, 3-1

WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas (0-3) fell to the University of Southern Maine (2-1) 3-1 in the opening matchup of the Terrier Women's Soccer Classic on Friday night. Bronte Howorth scored the lone Terriers goal in the defeat.

The Huskies struck first on a goal from Jordan Grant in the opening minutes, beating the keeper with a shot to the far post just 1:23 into the contest. The action would stay back and forth for the majority of the first half until Howorth got a feed from Kajsa Kaufeldt that found the back left of the net at the 30 minute mark.

Grant would strike again with a tally, beating the goalie to the low right corner. Kelly Burrell got the assist with a pass from inside the box, which broke the 1-1 tie.

Southern Maine continued to threat in the closing stanza, and notched another marker at the 86 minute mark, coming from Emily Staples on an assist from Grant.

Southern Maine outshot Thomas 26-6. USM net minder Katie Cobb notched four saves in the win while the Terriers keeper Kate Thibodeau registered 12 saves in the loss.

The Terriers return to the pitch tomorrow as they take on the University of Maine- Presque Isle to conclude the tournament at 1pm.
