WATERVILLE, ME - Thomas field hockey was defeated in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest against Castleton State College (4-4, 2-0 NAC), 4-0. Terrier goalkeeper Sofia Sourgiadakis had 11 saves in the losing effort.

With the loss the Terriers drop to 1-1 in the conference, while the Spartans improve to 2-0. The action-filled first half saw back and forth action with both teams having scoring opportunities. Brittany Premo nearly gave Thomas the lead just two minutes into the contest, picking up her own rebound only to have her shot blocked by a Castleton defender.

Shawna Pinsonault started the Spartans scoring with a goal just inside the circle seven minutes into the game. Minutes later, Stephanie Bardell netted in a goal assisted by Brynn Cayia to give Castleton a 2-0 lead going into the half.

Castleton kept the pressure on the Terriers after Rachel Preusser buried a backhanded shot 12 minutes into the second stanza. With the Preusser now holds Castleton State's all-time scoring record with 71.

The Spartans would tack on another goal with four minutes left in the game to pull it out of reach. Jessica Galatioto denied all six of the Terriers shots on goal in the Spartan's victory.

With the loss, Thomas falls to 0-6 against Castleton in the last six years.

The Terriers will be back in action tomorrow against Colby Sawyer at noon. Last time the two teams met, Thomas was victorious with a 2-0 win on the road.
