Box Score CASTINE, ME - Thomas was unable to hold on to their 1-0 first half lead, falling in overtime to Maine Maritime, 2-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer contest on Tuesday night.
The Mariners improved to 3-3-2 overall, 1-0-1 NAC, while the Terriers fell to 4-3, 1-1.
Joshua Phelps put the Terriers on the board first in the 19th minute when he netted a corner kick from Tre Ming. Phelps had two shots before his goal. The first was high and the second was stopped by Mariners' goalie Jesse Perkins.
Perkins stopped three more shots in the first half to keep the match 1-0 at the break.
A yellow card on Paul Rechichi set up the Mariners first goal in the 80th minute when Maine Maritime was awarded a free kick. Nicholas George passed the ball to Gabriel Warren in front of the box, and Warren's shot found it's way through the Thomas defense and into the back of the net.
The Terriers managed two more shots in regulation, the Mariners one, but none found the net.
MMA would secure the victory with 34 seconds left in the overtime when David Lord's pass sailed to the box where David Clough's head, and Thomas' goalie Mikkail Crockwell's hands, met the ball. Clough had just enough thrust to sneak the ball into the top left corner, and lift Maine Maritime to a 2-1 win over the Terriers.
Perkins finished with five saves and Crockwell stopped two shots.
Thomas will be back in action on Friday as they host Bowdoin in their home opener at 7pm.
