GORHAM, ME – Thomas was unable to hold on to a 1-0 first half lead, losing to New York Maritime 2-1 in the USM Invitational on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer contest. Kristi Hilton scored the Terriers first goal of the season in the losing effort.

It took Thomas just seven minutes into the contest to take a quick lead, as Hilton found a pass from Elizabeth Goodall that she buried in the back of the twine. Despite both squads putting up 11 shots each, the opening stanza would stay at 1-0.

The action would stay back and forth going into the second half, then at the 59 minute mark Jorrie Trenkamp tallied Maritime's equalizing marker. Nine minutes later it was Trenkamp again with the unassisted tally that would be the eventual game-winner.

Despite the Terriers outshooting their opponents 8-5 in the closing half, they were unable to tie the contest back up.

Kristin Hoar registered a remarkable 12 saves to earn the victory for Maritime, while the combination of Paige Leary and Kate Thibodeau combined for eight stops in the loss.

Thomas will return home next weekend as they host the Thomas Invitational. The Terriers will square off against USM on Friday, September 6 at 5pm, then take on Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday at 1pm.
