Thomas Claws Past Johnson State, 70-55

WATERVILLE, ME- Thomas (7-14, 5-10 NAC) pulled away Johnson State (5-16 2-12 NAC) 70-55, in a conference women's basketball matchup Friday night at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.

The Terriers and Johnson State Badgers battled to a 30-30 deadlock after the first half of play that saw 10 ties and seven lead changes. The Badgers went up by as many as 13 in the opening stanza, but the Terriers refused to let the game go. Thomas chipped away at the lead and tied the contest going into half from a layup by Elizabeth Goodall (Oakfield, Maine).

In the first half, Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, Maine) tied for the game-high with eight points, going 3-5 from the floor, while Katie McAllister (Pittiston, Maine) and Goodall chipped in seven each. For the visitors, Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt.) had eight points, going 2-3 from downtown.

The second half started with neither team being able to pull away. After the 13th tie of the game, Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) cashed in on two free throw attempts to give the Terriers the lead for good. Goodall would finish with a team-high 18 points, shooting 5-12 from the field including 6-8 from the charity stripe. Overall, Thomas shot 76.3 (29-38) from the line and outscored the Badgers 40-25 in the second half.

Robertson had a game-high 20 points for Johnson State, while Deanna Brandstetter (Newport, Vt.) and Jenessa Swainbank (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) each chipped in six rebounds.

The Terriers will return to action tomorrow, as they host Lyndon State at 5pm. The Terriers fell to the Hornets earlier in the season 64-56, despite 18 points from Goodall.

Thomas will recognize senior Bishop tomorrow prior to the contest in her final home game of her collegiate career.
