WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas men's basketball team fell to the Lyndon State Hornets 86-73 in their final home game of the season Sunday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. Senior forward Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, Mass.) led the Terriers tied with a team-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Immediately following the game Devaughn was recognized by Coach T.J. Maines on senior day. Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) led the Hornets with a double-double posting 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
With the loss to the Terriers fall to 12-10 (8-8 NAC), while the Hornets improve to 10-12 (9-6 NAC) on the season.
Ray Bernier Jr. (Oakland, Maine) kicked off the scoring for Thomas with a layup in his final home game of his collegiate career. DeVaughn had 10 points in the opening stanza, while picking up a key assist off a rebound reducing the lead to three with 25 seconds left. Gray and Jose Fortunato (Boston, Mass.) both had a team-leading eight points in the beginning half. In the first half Lyndon outshot the Terriers 42.5% to 38.9%,
Lyndon controlled the second half coming out strong and started with a six point lead, but Thomas was able to reclaim the lead at 12:59 junior guard Franklin Salvador (Somerville, Mass.) made a three pointer. The Hornets would end the contest on a DeVaughn led the team in his last home game and was recognized for being a contributor on the team as well as scoring 1,000 points being a Thomas Terrier. An 11-0 run that started at the seven minute mark would give the visiting side the edge, finishing the game with a 13 point advantage.
Salvador tied with the team-high 17 points in the loss, going 5-11 from beyond the arc. Levi Barnes (Skowhegan, Maine) chipped in with 16 off the bench. Overall, Thomas shot 38.2% (29-76) from the field, and going 10-33 (30.3%) from downtown.
Fortunato also had a double-double for the victors with 15 points and 11 boards. The Hornets shot 45.7% (32-70) from the floor, while outrebounding the hosts 50-36.
The next game for the Terriers will be on the road against Maine Maritime on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Thomas defeated the Mariners earlier in the season 89-74 in Waterville.
