NEC Defeats Terriers, 72-46

HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College Pilgrims defeated the Thomas College Terriers 72-46 Friday evening in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball matchup.

With the win the Pilgrims improve to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in NAC play. The loss drops the Terriers to 5-13 on the season and 4-9 in NAC play.

NEC would allow Thomas just three made shots from the field in the opening half and shoot 47% from the field as a team building the 39-17 halftime lead.

The Pilgrims would extend their lead to 30 points seven minutes into the second half but the Terriers would show some offensive life cutting the lead in half trailing 54-38 with eight minutes remaining in regulation. The NEC defense would tighten up late in the game holding Thomas to just four points in the final five minutes en route to the 72-46 victory.

In addition to Burgess the Pilgrims were led by Kayla Lawlor (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) who chipped in 15 points and Allison Beck (Potomac, Md.) who finished with 10 points. NEC's Markey Flewelling (Plymouth, N.H.) and Katarina Muska (Brimfield, Mass.) each dished out seven assists for the Pilgrims.

Leading the way for Thomas was Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) who finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Thomas' Emilee Reynolds (Newport, Maine) finished with eight points and six rebounds, while Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, Maine) chipped in six points and grabbed six rebounds.

Thomas will hit the court on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they travel to take on NAC foe Colby-Sawyer College.
