Hand's Hat-Trick leads Thomas Past Badgers, 7-0

WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas men's soccer was able to capture a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory, shutting out Johnson State (0-13, 0-6 NAC) 7-0 on Saturday evening. Senior Michael Hand had a hat-trick in the win, with all of his goals coming in the first half.

It took the Terriers just one minute to get on the board, as Paul Rechichi headed a ball in off of a Zeon Robinson cross. Just a minute later Hand would put in his first of the game on a penalty shot after he was fouled inside the box on a juke attempt. Hand added goals in the 30:38 mark and at 33:27 to pull Thomas ahead 4-0 at halftime.

Gunnar Shelton would kick off the scoring in the closing stanza at 57:19 on a shot on the far post that just beat the Badgers net minder Sam Martin. Dakota Duplissie recorded two goals in the closing minutes to give the Terriers a comfortable 7-0 victory.

With the victory Thomas gets back to the .500 mark at 6-6-1 and 2-2 in the NAC.

Overall, Thomas outshot the Badgers 33-2 and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Mikkail Crockwell registered the victory, while Winston Trott recorded one save while playing in net for the second half. Martin made nine stops in the losing effort.

Thomas will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 19 as they host conference rival Husson at 3:30pm during Homecoming and Alumni Weekend.
