WATERVILLE, ME- Thomas (4-10, 3-6 NAC) was able to pull off a dramatic comeback defeating Maine Maritime (6-8, 4-5 NAC) 58-53 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball contest. The Terriers trailed by 15 points at halftime, then outshot the Mariners 38-18 in the second half.
During the opening half, Maine Maritime withstood Thomas from getting a lead, and jumped out by as many as 16 points after a jumper by Hannah Lyons (Scarborough, Maine) at 3:21. The visitors shot a combined 48% from the floor (12-25), while Thomas went 9-27 (33.3%).
Freshman Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) had a game leading 10 points in the opening stanza for MMA, going 3-5 from the floor and 2-3 from downtown. Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) had a team high six points for the hosts, along with six rebounds.
Thomas would jump out to a 9-0 run in the early stages of the second half to chip away the lead from the visitors down to seven. The Terriers would take their first lead of the night on a layup by Katie McAllister (Pittston, Maine) with 3:18 remaining. Thomas would end the game on a 5-0 run to complete the comeback, with Emilee Reynolds (Newport, Maine) going a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. Thomas would outshoot MMA on the floor 42.9% (12-28) to 29.2% (7-24) in the last half.
Pelletier would end with a game high 16 points along with 10 rebounds. McAllister heated up in the second half with 14 points, going 5-10 from the field.
Badeen would add five in the closing half to give her a team high 15 points in the loss, with Leah Jackson (Dedham, Maine) adding eight boards for the Mariners.
Thomas will return to the hardwood on Saturday as they travel to Bangor to take on Husson at 3pm. The Eagles defeated the Terriers earlier this month at Thomas, 70-49. Thomas will be looking to end a 12 game losing streak against their conference rival, dating back to Jan. 16, 2007.
