Terriers Upended by UMF, 94-72

WATERVILLE, ME- Thomas College 5-7 (2-6 NAC) was defeated by University of Maine at Farmington (10-3, 6-2 NAC) 94-72, in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.

At the end of the first half UMF led Thomas by a slim 40-39 score, which included seven lead changes. UMF held the largest lead at five on two occurrences, while Thomas had the lead by four on three separate occasions.

In the opening stanza, Thomas shot 43.3% (13-30) from the field, including seven three pointers (7-17), while UMF shot 57.7% (15-26) from the floor overall. Thomas was outrebounded 20-10 in the first half.

UMF was led by two different players at half. Yusuf Iman (Auburn, Maine) and Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine) had 15 points at half, respectively. Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, Mass.) had a team leading 10 points for the home side.

Thomas was able to regain the lead to begin the second half, however at 18:13 a jumper by Johnson gave the Beavers the lead for good. UMF outscored Thomas 54-33 in the second half.

For the Terriers, DeVaughan led Thomas with 14 points. Marquis Pollard (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Terriers with five rebounds. Justin Murray (Winslow, Maine) with nine points, provided a spark off the bench shooting 50% (3-6) from downtown.

Johnson finished the game with 25 points and 12 rebounds for UMF in the win, shooting 10-14 from the floor. Andrew Dickey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) ended up with a game high 27 points, shooting 9-15 from the field.

Overall, Thomas shot 33.8% (22-65) from the floor and 78.3% (18-23) from the line. University of Maine-Farmington shot 62.5% (35-56) from the field, 50% (7-14) from beyond the arc, and 68% from the charity stripe. UMF outrebounded Thomas 44-27.

Thomas will take on Maine Maritime Academy Thursday, January 17 at 7pm in another conference matchup.
