Box Score Paxton, MA – The Anna Maria AMCATS and the Thomas Terriers clashed in a non-conference field hockey matchup Sunday afternoon as the Terriers defeated the AMCATS 3-1. This loss puts the AMCATS at 5-6 for the year, while the Terriers rise to 3-7.
The AMCATS struck first, capitalizing on a penalty shot opportunity. At the 18:58 of the first half, sophomore forward Nichole Lowe took the seven meter shot for the AMCATS and found the left side of the goal.
About eleven minutes later the Terriers' junior defender Miranda Tinsman (Belgrade, Maine) struck back, hitting the back of the net following a rebound. A second score was tallied on late in the first half when freshman midfielder Crystal Cunningham (Dexter, Maine) found freshman midfielder Hillary Seekins (Winterport, Maine) in front of the net.
The second half saw great defensive play from both teams. Junior goalkeeper Sofia Sourgiadakis (Littleton, Mass.) stopped two shots for the Terriers. AMCATS freshman goalkeeper Mary Kate Breen made three saves, and freshman defender Amanda Hebert picked up a defensive save..
Sophomore forward Brittany Premo (Concord, N.H.) scored off of a rebound for the Terriers third goal of the game to secure the victory.
Thomas outshot Anna Maria 14-10 in the battle, and held a 13-11 advantage in penalty corners.
The Terriers will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 3 as they host conference foe Maine-Farmington at 5pm.
