Box Score WATERVILLE, ME- The Terriers (5-1-1, 2-0 NAC) suffered their first loss of the season, after a hard fought 1-0 defeat to Bates College (2-2-1). Mikkail Crockwell (St. David's, Bermuda) had five saves in the loss for Thomas.
Ethan Hirshberg would score the lone goal of the contest for Bates in the 22nd minute, as John Murphy crossed the ball on a corner, and Hirshberg would head it past Crockwell, in a crowded box. Bates held Thomas to just one shot in the first half, while posting 11 themselves.
The Terriers would pick up the pressure in the second half, but were unable to get one by Bates netminder Zach Shabman, who had three saves in the victory. Three penalty kicks in the later stages of the game gave Thomas an opportunity, but were not able to capitalize.
Bates had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks in the win.
Thomas will return to action Saturday, Sept. 29 as they host New England College in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) showdown. The Pilgrims defeated the Terriers 3-0 last fall in Hennicker, N.H.
