Huskies Nip Terriers in Overtime, 3-2

WATERVILLE,ME- The Thomas (0-2) women's soccer team lost a nail-biter in overtime to University of Southern Maine (1-1) Sunday afternoon. Freshman Kajsa Kaufeldt (Uppsala, Sweden) had two goals in the losing effort.

The Huskies scored early in the fifth minute of competition as Kelly Burrel (Cumberland, Maine) headed the ball over the keepers' hands on a cross from teammate Stefanie Stockwell (Buxton, Maine). Freshman Ally Abrahamson (Rutland, Vt.) gave the Huskies a two goal advantage in the 74th minute with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.

The Terriers came back to tie it late in the game as freshman Kaufeldt scored twice in a span of 42 seconds. Kaufeldt, who had many good opportunities throughout the game,  tallied her first NCAA goal off an assist from classmate Bronte Howorth (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) at the 82:18 mark. Kaufeldt equalized for the Terriers with an unassisted goal at 83:00.

Burrel would score her second goal of the match 6:13 into sudden-death overtime to give Southern Maine the victory.

Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, Maine) recorded 11 saves in the loss, as Southern Maine had a 27-9 shot advantage.

The Terriers will travel to Standish on Thursday to take on Saint Joseph's College at 4:30pm.
