Terriers Drubbed by NEC, 72-53

WATERVILLE, ME- New England College (8-2, 4-0 NAC) defeated Thomas (2-5, 1-3 NAC) 72-53 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball contest at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

Thomas started the game hot by gaining a five point advantage but New England College came back and took the lead and kept increasing it as they lead at half by 23 points. The score at half time was 49-26 in favor of the Pilgrims

Sophomore Kayla Lawlor (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) had a contest leading 20 points in the first half for NEC and senior Kate Levy (Woods Hole, Mass) added 15 along with a game-high three steals. For the Terriers, freshmen's Emilee Reynolds (Newport, Maine) and Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) tied for the team-lead in points with eight. Senior Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, Maine) added a game leading five caroms in the opening stanza.  

New England College increased their lead to 29 points in the beginning of the second half, but Thomas ended the game on a 17-5 run that decreased the deficit. Levy ended with a game-high 22 points for the Pilgrims while Lawlor could not get on the board in the second staying at 20 points. Sophomore Taylor  Burgess (Randallstown, Md.) contributed with a double- double, 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Reynolds ended the game with a team-high 14 points for Thomas while Pelletier added 13, four assists, two blocks, and seven boards. Freshman Katie McAllister (Waterville, Maine) also had a career high 11 points in the loss.

Thomas will be back in action after the holiday break when they travel to Vermont to face NAC opponent Lyndon State on January 4, 2013 at 5:30 pm. Last year, Thomas lost at home to the Hornets by the score of 82-72 while winning 75-72 on the road in overtime.
