Terriers Stymied by Colby-Sawyer, 65-50

WATERVILLE, ME- Colby-Sawyer (4-4, 3-0 NAC) defeated Thomas (2-4, 1-2 NAC) 65-50 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball contest at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium Friday night.

Thomas got off to a slow start in the first half as the Chargers took the lead two minutes into the game and never turned back. Colby-Sawyer expanded their lead over the Terriers by a high eighteen in the opening stanza, but Thomas was able to battle back to decrease the deficit to seven.  The Chargers held the lead at half over the Terriers by a score of 37 to 25.

At half time, freshman Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) had a team-high seven points for the home squad as well as the team lead in rebounds with four. Fellow freshman Emilee Reynolds (Newport, Maine) added six points and three caroms for the Terriers. For the Chargers at half time, sophomore Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) had a game-high 12 points while Junior Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass) added in nine and a team leading five boards.

The Chargers started the second half on an 18-6 run that included 16 points from senior Taylor DeSanty, who finished with a game-high 27 points. Thomas fought back to decrease Colby-Sawyer's lead to 12 before eventually losing by a margin of 15. The Terriers were led by Pelletier's 16 points; with junior Elizabeth Goodall (Oakfield, Maine) adding ten to Thomas' total. Reynolds and senior Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, Maine) tied for the team-lead in rebounds with seven. The pair also tied for the game-high with Fruzzetti of Colby-Sawyer.

The Terriers will look to stop their current three game losing streak when they face off with NAC foe New England College Pilgrims at home tomorrow with a start time of 1:00 pm. New England College had the upper hand versus Thomas last year in both games played with wins by the scores of 78-61 and 89-66.
