Terriers Romp Colby in Battle of Waterville, 88-83

WATERVILLE, ME- Thomas (4-1, 1-1 NAC) was able to hold off a second half push to pull out an 88-83 victory over crosstown rival Colby (2-4) in a non-conference men's basketball contest Tuesday evening at Mahaney Gymnasium.

The first half started off as a back and forth battle until the seven minute mark when the Terriers would go on a 8-0 run to open up the score to 33-21. The Mules would cut the deficit to three with two minutes remaining in the opening stanza, but the Terriers would end the half with a five point cushion, 40-35. Sean Munson (Hampton, N.H) had 11 points off the bench for the home side, a first half high, along with two steals.

Colby would pick up their first lead of the game since the early stages of the first half at the 12 minute mark, but would only last briefly as the Terriers would respond with three's by Jordan Hoyt (Wilton, Maine) and Justin Murray (Winslow, Maine) to give Thomas a nine point lead.

Freshman guard Levi Barnes (Skowhegan, Maine) would end up with a game high 18 points, tied with Mules forward Sam Wilson (Watertown, Conn.). Stanley Greene Jr. (Dorchester, Mass.) contributed with 13 points in the victory, while Eric Westbrooks (Dublin, Ireland) had nine points, six boards, and a game high six assists.

For the away side, Patrick Stewart (Bangor, Maine) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Terriers have now won the last three meetings with their Waterville neighbor. Thomas will return to the hardwood Friday as they host conference opponent Colby-Sawyer at 7:30pm.  Last season the Terriers had a tough time against the Chargers, falling in both meetings 97-66 and 87-75 respectively.
