Mules Top Terriers in Battle of Waterville, 72-40

WATERVILLE, ME – Colby College (2-1) defeated Thomas College (1-1) in a non-conference women's basketball matchup, 72-40, a battle between the two colleges of the town of Waterville. Senior guard Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) had a game high 20 points in the victory for the Mules.

The beginning of the first half saw back and forth scoring with the Terriers keeping the game within three points. The Mules would take a 23-11 lead with seven minutes remaining after two three's by Manduca. Colby would end the first half leading 39-20, shooting 44% from the field, and going 6-14 from beyond the arc.

Elizabeth Goodall (Oakfield, Maine) would provide a spark off the bench for Thomas in the second half, making two three pointers, and Ashleigh Gagne (Waterville, Maine) would have six rebounds in the closing half (10 overall). This however would not be enough, as the Mules would continue their strong performance from the field, shooting 40%, and 45% from downtown. Jen Dale (Belgrade, Maine) would come off the bench for Colby and add six points in just nine minutes of time on the court.

Overall, the visitors held the advantage in field goal percentage 42.4 to 26.9, and in rebounds 46 to 32.

For the Terriers, freshman forward Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) continued to look strong in her second collegiate contest, scoring a team high 15 points.

Thomas will return to the hardwood Friday, Nov. 30 as they travel to Vermont to take on conference foe Green Mountain at 5:30pm. Last winter, the Terriers had a 2-0 record against the Eagles.
