Eagles Defeat Women's Hoops 84-71

Bangor, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team fell 84-71 to the Eagles of Husson University on Tuesday evening. Senior guard and North Atlantic Conference leading scorer Karin Bird scored a team high 27 points going 9-18 from the field, shooting 6-10 from behind the arc, and grabbing four rebounds.

The contest got off to a slow start, but Husson (5-7, 5-1 NAC) was able to build a 13-3 lead, five and a half minutes into the half. Bird took control for the Terriers (2-10, 2-5 NAC), however the lead would change hands several times within the last 10 minutes of the first. With the score tied at 32 with under five minutes left, Brianna Hanscom and Marissa Albert combined for the final 16 points of the frame for Husson, who led 48-38 at the break.

The Eagles made a concerted effort coming out of halftime to stop Bird, who only hit two free-throws in the second half. Sophomore Elizabeth Goodall and Ashley Matchett helped pick up the load for Thomas as the pair both hit double figures in the game.  

While the Terriers struggled to put up points The Eagles offense was running on all cylinders as Hanscom, Albert, and Amanda Gifford helped the Eagles build a 25 point lead with less than 13 minutes remaining in the game.

The Terriers have two games this weekend, on Saturday the Terriers will take on the Beavers from the University of Maine at Farmington in a NAC match-up at 4:00 p.m. and will finish the weekend with a non-conference match-up with the University of Mane Fort Kent on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
