Terriers Knock Off Castleton

Waterville, Maine - The first meeting between the Thomas College Terriers (9-10, 5-4 NAC) and the Castleton Spartans (11-8, 6-2 NAC) resulted in the Terriers first North Atlantic Conference loss, as they fell to the Spartans 85-76. Tonight the Terriers returned the favor as they defeated the second place Spartans 96-73. The Terriers were led by sophomore Jarrad DeVaughn's game high 34 points, nine rebounds, and his 80 percent shooting from the free throw line.

The first half of play saw the Spartans jump out to an early 3-0 lead. The teams traded the lead twice in the half till the 6:38 mark where the host team took a 20-17 lead and never looked back. Castleton's Mark Comstock put up 11 first half points for the Spartans on his way to a 19 point game. Freshman Franklin Salvador came off the bench and drained 4-of-6 from behind the three point arc on his way to a 12 point half. The Terriers sent 75 percent of their first half free throw attempts through the hoop, while never sending the Spartans to the line.

When the teams entered the locker rooms are half it was the Terriers over the Spartans 36-27.

When the teams returned to the court the Terriers continued to hold onto the lead that they took into the locker room at halftime. The Spartans were able to get within three points of tying the score, but were unable to get over the hump.

Five Terriers hit double figures in the victory, Isiah Brathwaite racked up 17 points and drained 92 percent of his free throws. Salvador finished up with 14 points, fellow freshman Stanley Greene Jr. chipped in 11 points, and senior Andrew Duncanson hit 10 points this evening. Castleton's Jared Paul hit a team high 21 points.

The Terriers will take on Green Mountain (0-13, 0-8 NAC) tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in Larry Mahaney Gym.
