Castine, ME - The Lady Mariners from Maine Maritime (17-9, 10-4 NAC) Academy defeated the Terriers from Thomas College (8-15, 6-8 NAC) 77-61 in the North Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament First Round Tuesday night at Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium. Junior guard Karin Bird led all scorers with 22 points as the Terriers season came to an end. MMA will move on to face Castleton in the NAC semi-finals on Friday night at Husson.

Maine Maritime held a 37-23 halftime advantage after shooting 48% from the floor and holding Thomas to 22.2% shooting. Thomas managed to cut the lead to nine points (45-36) with 13:49 remaining in the game but never got closer as MMA went on a 20-to-7 run to put the game away and secure the win.

Alexis Evans had a team high eight rebounds; while Kellie Martel and Mallorie Blakney scored 15 and 10 points respectively for the Terriers.
