Box Score Henniker, N.H. – Despite a 36 point performance from senior Karin Bird the Thomas College women's basketball team dropped a 81-78 decision to the Pilgrims of New England College in a North Atlantic Conference match up on Saturday afternoon.
With the lose the Terriers fall to 1-8 on the season and 1-3 in the NAC, while conference newcomer NEC improves to 10-0 and 4-0 in the NAC.
Thomas College controlled the game early by jumping out to a quick 7-4 lead in the first three minutes. The Terriers controlled the tempo till NEC took their first lead of the game at the 16 minute mark when a Rachel Williams' layup gave the Pilgrims a 9-7 lead. NEC continued its run until with 9:05 left in the period Bird hit a three point shot to make the score 26-10 NEC. The Terriers closed the half on a 9-1 run in the last five minute to make the halftime score 44-27 in favor of NEC.
NEC leading scorer Stephanie Parker gave the Pilgrims an 18 point lead with 16:12 remaining in the game, which started an 11-4 run for NEC to extend the lead to 25 with 11 minutes left. Thomas would go on a 15-9 run over the span of six minutes, but the Pilgrims closed the game evenly with the Terriers, giving NEC its 10th straight victory.
The Terriers will hit the court on January 6th with they take on Lyndon after Thomas' winter break.
