MMA Defeats Terriers 1-0 in 2OT

Waterville, Maine - The Thomas College men's soccer team fell 1-0, in double overtime to the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament Quarterfinal on Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers (10-7, 5-4 NAC) outshot the Mariners (9-4-3, 4-3-2 NAC) 10-to-7 in the scoreless first half. 

The scoreboard again read zeros at the end of the second half despite a combined 29 shots from both teams.  The Terriers outshot the Mariners 18-to-11. 

Both teams were able to fire two shots in the first overtime.  In the 91st minute Benjamin almost clinched the game for the Mariners but Thomas goalkeeper Mikkail Crockwell made a spectacular save to keep the game scoreless.  Six minutes later the Terriers almost clinched the game when freshman Khamisi Lightbourne slipped a shot that was just inches away from hitting net. 

An obstruction call gave the Mariners a free kick just outside the box in later parts of the 107th minute of play.  Nick El-Hajj received the free kick and then passed the ball to Benjamin Russell who sent the ball into the back of the net clinching the win for the Mariners.

Crockwell recorded nine saves for the Terriers in the loss.  William Trace Lacour recorded six for the Mariners and earns the win.

The number five seeded Mariners travel to number one seeded Husson on November 2nd for NAC Tournament Semifinal play at a time to be determined.
