Chargers Defeat Men Soccer 2-1

New London, N.H. – The Thomas College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Terriers fall to 4-4 (1-3 NAC) as the Chargers improve to 3-7-1 (1-2-1 NAC) and pick up their first ever NAC victory.

The game was a tale of two halves as Colby-Sawyer controlled the first and Thomas was in command during the second. The Chargers held a 12-4 edge in first half shots, while Thomas responded with an 11-2 edge in the second frame.

The Chargers struck first with a goal from freshman Alex Ortega in the first 1:40 of play. The Chargers got some insurance with a goal from Derek Veilleux in the eighth minute of play putting the host team up 2-0.

At the break the Chargers held a 2-0 lead over the Terriers.

Thomas quickly cut the deficit in half two minutes into the second frame on a goal from sophomore Michael Hand. Sophomore Matt Ford took a free kick from the right flank and sent the ball across the goal mouth where Hand finished with his fifth goal of the season.

Colby-Sawyer senior Will Berry earned the win and made five saves. Thomas sophomore keeper Mikkail Crockwell turned aside seven shots in the loss.

The Terriers will take on the Huskies of Southern Maine on Wednesday October 5th in Gorham, Maine.
