Box Score

Lewiston, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Bobcats of Bates College in a non-conference match up. Bates junior John Murphy scored twice in the second half to break a scoreless tie and give the host the win.

Bates (2-3) outshot Thomas (4-2, 1-1 NAC) by a 9-4 margin in both halves of Sunday's game, but the Bobcats had no lead to show for controlling most of the first half and at the break the scoreboard read zeros.

Bates broke the tie in the 61st minute when Murphy slipped by the Terriers defenders and found the back of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Murphy scored again from close to the same spot on the field, receiving an excellent pass and rocketing an unguarded shot that hit the crossbar and bounced high off the ground. Play resumed temporarily before an official ruled the play a goal.

Terriers goal keeper Mikkail Crockwell made eight saves in the loss.

The Terriers are off till October 1st when they travel to New England College for a 12 p.m. North Atlantic Conference match up with the Pilgrims.
