Kerry Smart was named the Head Women's and Men's CrossCountry Coach in 2009. Smart has been instrumental in the growth of the crosscountry program at Thomas, coaching the first all-conferenceselection William Janakis in 2012, and the first victor in thewomen's side in 2013 when Crystal Peatfield took top honors at theMaine Maritime Invitational. Also, Smart led the charge as Thomashosted their first NAC Championship Meet in 2013, along with thefirst invitational in the programs history earlier thatfall. Smart, a University of Maine graduate, spent three yearsas captain for the Division I Maine Black Bears Cross Country Team,and in 1993 made the All NAC Team. From 1997-2001, Coach Smart served as the Athletic Liaisonfor the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Maine. While there,she helped develop the student advising programs with the AthleticDirector, and advised half of the student-athletes atUSM. Smart also volunteered for three years at the Boys andGirls Club as a coach for cross country for both indoor andoutdoor track, and many of her runners went on to compete at theDivision I level. Smart also serves as the Director of Athletic Fundraisingat Thomas College.
