Marsh Gray was named head men’s lacrosse coach in 2015. Since arriving, Thomas has led the NAC in team defense, caused turnovers per game, and saves per game for three consecutive seasons. Nationally, the Terriers ranked 2nd in individual caused turnovers per game, 5th in man down defense, and 10th in team caused turnovers per game.
Prior to Thomas, Gray spent two seasons as the head coach at Husson University. The Eagles enjoyed their finest season in 2015, and were highlighted as one of Lax Power’s Most Improved College Teams. Their offense led the NAC in goals per game, shots per game, and shots on goal per game; and their defense led the NAC in caused turnovers per game, man down defense, and scoring defense. Nationally, they ranked 5th in cause turnovers per game, 4th in ground balls per game, 4th in individual ground balls per game, and 1st in individual caused turnovers per game.
Under his leadership, Husson had the NAC 2015 Defensive Player of the Year and 2015 Rookie of the Year and earned the 2014 Sportsmanship Award. Gray coached seven All-NAC selections, four ECAC Players of the Week, and four NAC Players of the Week. Including an Academic All-New England, Scholar All-American, NEILA All-Star, and MLL draft selection in 2015. Gray improve the team’s record from 5-8 to 9-7 and their stats from 142-276 points, 94-176 goals, 411-699 shots, and 464-662 ground balls.
Gray was an Assistant Coach at the University of Southern Maine for two seasons. He helped the Huskies improve in all aspects and coached 4 All-LEC selections, an ECAC All-New England, and NLL draft selection in 2013. He also served as a high school coach in Maine and New Hampshire for fifteen years. In that time he recorded over 200 wins and 8 championships, and coached 13 All-Americans and 82 conference selections.
He played NCAA DIII lacrosse at Plymouth State College, where he was a midfielder best known for his defensive prowess and mastery at the face-off position. Gray later transferred to the University of Maine and competed in NCAA DI track & field and rugby. He was invited to train with the USA Rugby National Team and he received America East Conference and New England honors in the sprints and javelin.
Gray is also a certified strength & conditioning coach at Thomas. He has worked with professional lacrosse players from the Boston Cannons (MLL) and Boston Storm (UWLX), and trained 5 NCAA DIII national tournament teams and helped over 100 college athletes achieve conference honors. He currently serves on the NCAA DIII Men’s Lacrosse Regional Advisory Committee and USILA All-American Selection Committee.
He received his Bachelor’s in Secondary Education from the University of Maine, and plans to acquire a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Thomas College in the near future.
