Women's Rugby Earns Ninth Straight Win to Continue Undefeated Season

Waterville, ME- Thomas College Women's Rugby continues to stay undefeated by picking up three wins on Sunday morning, September 27th, making them 9-0 for the season.

How it Happened:

Match One: 52-0 Win VS University of Maine Farmington
  • Cassidy Hardy started the scoring for the Terriers with a try and conversion in the first two minutes; she went on to score 27 points in the match.
  • In her debut as a Terrier, Avery Hille scored her first try for Thomas, extending the lead to 12-0.
  • Aliyah Riffey and Maeve Hickok scored two try's each, adding 20 points to the Terriers' win.
  • The Terriers won with a dominant offensive battle but were backed up by a strong defense that kept the opposing team out of their end zone.

Match Two: 38-15 Win VS New England College
  • The Terriers wasted no time scoring first again with a try from Samya Johnson putting the Thomas on the board
  • After tries scored by Riffey, Emma Mercadante, and Hardy, who also had two conversions, saw the Terriers go up 24-0.
  • The Pilgrims scored after time expired in the first half, making the score 24-5 going into the second half of the match.
  • The Pilgrims came out of the half with a try, making an effort to cut down the Terriers' lead.
  • Hardy went on to be the only scorer for the Terriers this half, picking up 14 points to put them out of reach of New England College as they scored the final try in the match, resulting in a 38-15 final score.

Match Three: 33-12 Win VS. Nichols College
  • For the third time that day, the Terriers were the ones to throw the first punch, with Riffey scoring the try and Hardy completing the conversion.
  • Nichols answered back with a try of their own but came up short with their conversion, making the score 7-5 Terriers.
  • Riffey and Hardy combined again with a try and a conversion to end the scoring for both teams in the first half, with the score being 14-5 going into the second half.
  • The Terriers controlled the start of the second half with three tries, Riffey, Hardy, and Merccadante, and two conversions, both by Hardy.
  • Nichols tried to gather themselves for a comeback by scoring a try, but it wasn't enough, giving the Terriers a 33-12 win.

What's Next:
  • The Terriers look to continue their streak as they go back on the road to New Hampshire to compete at the New England College Tournament in Henniker, NH. Kickoff is set for 10 AM on October 3rd as they face off again against New England College.
