Rutledge's Heroics Once Again Lead Terriers to 2-0 Win at Simmons University

Waterville, ME - Briley Rutledge's two goals were enough to lead the Terriers past the Simmons University Sharks in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, September 9th, 2026. The final score was 2-0 as Rutledge bagged her third and fourth goals of the regular season.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers scored on the first shot of the game, with Briley Rutledge firing home an incredible long-distance strike that found the top shelf to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
  • However, the Sharks responded minutes later with a good chance toward goal, but Terrier goalkeeper Emily Rock stepped up big to make the save.
  • Both teams traded shots for the next 20 minutes, but it was the Terriers who would control the final few minutes of the first half.
  • Shots from Yaribel Pena and Phoebe Padgett flew just wide of the net, giving the Terriers more momentum heading into the second half.
  • Early in the second half the Sharks came out running, forcing two good saves from Rock in the first 15 minutes.
  • Soon after in the 70th minute a curled cross from Rutledge was sent in to a busy six-yard box, and the ball found it's way into the goal, giving the Terriers a 2-0 lead.
  • Just a little over 10 minutes later the Sharks were awarded a penalty kick, but missed wide to keep the score 2-0.
  • With the added momentum the Terrier defense helped see out the remainder of the game, giving the team another huge 2-0 non-conference win.
