Waterville, ME - Women's Lacrosse hosted the University of Maine Farmington in the Terriers conference opener on Saturday, March 21st, but were unable to overcome the Beavers, falling by a final score of 2-7
Records:
Thomas: Overall (2-2), NAC (0-1)
UMF: Overall (3-4), NAC (1-0)
How it Happened:
- Both the Terriers and the Beavers battled for the momentum in the 1st quarter, but a strong defensive quarter from both sides kept both teams scoreless heading into the 2nd.
- The Terriers found themselves down 0-2 midway through the 2nd quarter after two back-to-back goals from the Beavers.
- However, the Terriers found a response late in the 2nd thanks to an unassisted Sadie Dorr goal, cutting the deficit to just 1 goal with less than two minutes to play in the half.
- Despite the late goal from Dorr, a goal from the Beavers in the final minute of the 2nd quarter sent the Terriers into the half down 1-3.
- The Beavers extended their lead to three goals midway through the 3rd quarter, but a late answer from Isabella Pelletier (assisted by Sophia Clayton) cut the Terriers deficit to two goals with just 15 minutes to play in regulation.
- The Terriers looked to build some momentum in the opening minutes of the 4th quarter with shots on goal, but would be unable to capitalize.
- UMF caught fire minutes later, scoring three unanswered goals to put the Terriers down five goals with seven minutes to play in the 4th quarter.Â
- The Terriers continued to battle late in the 4th quarter, but despite their best efforts, the Beavers ultimately held on to hand Thomas a 2-7 conference loss at home.Â
