Riley Smith's Hat-Trick Leads Women's Soccer to 4-0 Win Against UMF

Waterville, ME - Riley Smith scored three goals and added an assist in just 39 minutes played to help lead the Terriers to a 4-0 shutout win against the University of Maine Farmington Beavers at home on Saturday, October 10th, 2026. This was the team's first win against the Beavers since 2021, and the first home win against the Beavers in over 16 years.

How it Happened:
  • Despite the score the Beavers started out the game well, controlling most of the ball.
  • Terrier goalkeeper Emily Rock was forced to make three good saves in the first 20 minutes to keep the Beavers out.
  • From the 25th minute until just before halftime the Beavers dominated, outshooting the Terriers 11-4 in the first 45 minutes.
  • However, against the run of play in the 44th minute Riley Smith was able to score from a loose ball to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • The Terriers looked like an entirely new team heading into the second half, controlling most of the possession.
  • In the 61st minute a perfectly timed pass from Briley Rutledge found Smith, who scored her second of the game to make it 2-0.
  • Just over a minute later Yaribel Pena added to the scoring, finding the bottom right corner to grow the lead to three.
  • In the 70th minute Smith completed her hat-trick, scoring on a deflection to sink the Beavers chances.
  • The Terriers continued to have most of the possession for the remaining 20 minutes, and held on to secure a 4-0 shutout conference win against the Beavers.
